Creepy Crawly Buns Tutorial
What You’ll Need
- Hair elastics
- Comb
- Spider rings
- Hairspray
- Bobby pins (Optional)
Section the hair – Part your child’s hair down the middle creating two even pigtails. Use a hair elastic to secure one section to the side as you work on the other.
More sections! – Separate a small section at the bottom of your child’s head. Pull the remaining hair away from this section and secure it to be out of the way. Take the small section at the bottom and secure it with a hair elastic. Repeat this process with another section right above the previous section. You should now have two sections of hair secured with elastic bands. Keep creating even sections until you reach the top of your child’s head.
Braiding Upwards – Take the bottom section and begin Dutch braiding upwards towards the top section. Find out how to Dutch Braid here!
- Take it to the Top – Once you reach the top of your child’s head, begin to incorporate from the front section of hair with the rest of the braid. Secure with a hair elastic. Finish braiding the rest of the hair, securing the end with a hair elastic. Lightly tug on braid to fluff the hair a bit. finish off each bubble braid with a bun.
Wrap the braid around the top hair elastic to create a bun. Secure the bun with a hair elastic or bobby pins.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the other side.
- Make it creepy! – Once you’re happy with the hair placement, loop spider rings through each hair elastic. Finish off your creepy spider hairstyle with hairspray!
Ghost Buns
What You’ll Need
- Hair elastics
- Comb
- A box of tissues
- Black marker
- Hairspray
- Start with space buns – Part your child’s hair down the middle into even sections. Take one section and form a bun at the top of your child’s head, securing it with a hair elastic. Repeat on the other side.
OPTIONAL: For extra hold, you can braid the section.
Use bobby pins to adjust the hair’s placement to your liking. Once you’re satisfied with the look, use hairspray to lock your style in place. - Bring your buns back from the dead – Taking one tissue, place it on top of one of the buns, ensuring that the bun is in the center. Then, use a hair elastic to secure the tissue over the bun, creating a ghost shape. Using your black marker, draw eyes and a mouth to bring your ghost to life! Repeat on the other side to complete your ghoulish style.
Eyeball Bubble Braids
What You’ll Need
- Colorful hair elastics
- Plastic eyeballs
- Spider rings (Optional)
- Brewing Bubbles – Part your child’s hair down the middle into even sections. Take one section and secure it with a hair elastic above the ear. Add another hair elastic around 1” from the previous hair elastic. Continue to add evenly spaced hair elastics through the entire length of hair. Repeat on the other side.
- Make it Eye-Catching – Insert a plastic eyeball into the bubble braid, between the hair elastics. Continue to add eyeballs through both braids. Fluff the hair to better hold the eyeballs. Add the spider rings to the top of each braid for some extra spookiness.
Creepy Crawly Hair
What You’ll Need
- Strong hold hair gel
- Creepy toy bugs
- Hot glue (Optional)
- Bobby pins or hair clips (Optional)
- Green temporary hair color spray (Optional)
- Prepare for your spooky style! – Use your hot glue gun to glue the creepy bugs onto bobby pins or hair clips.
- Spike it up & make it green – Using the strong hold hair gel, spike your child’s hair up. Once you’re happy with the look, use green temporary hair color spray to color your child’s entire head. Allow the hair spray to dry.
- A frightening infestation – Place your creepy crawly bugs throughout your child’s head, secured with a clip or bobby pin. Make final adjustments to your liking and get ready to bug out this Halloween!
OPTIONAL: Use the strong hold gel to adhere the bugs to the hair.
