That’s why we partnered with Fraser Sensory Certified to develop educational resources aimed at teaching children what to expect during their visit and the importance of a visual schedule and social narrative.
Visual schedules are invaluable tools for children with sensory sensitivities, providing a structured outline of their salon experience. Together with Fraser Sensory Certified, we created customized visual schedules tailored to our salon’s layout and haircut process. These schedules use simple, easy-to-understand visuals to guide children through each step of their visit, from checking in at the front desk to sitting in the stylist’s chair. By offering a clear roadmap of what to expect, visual schedules help reduce anxiety and empower children to feel more in control of their salon experience.
In addition to visual schedules, social narratives play a crucial role in preparing children for their salon visit. These personalized stories use child-friendly language and illustrations to explain the purpose of the salon, introduce key staff members, and outline common sensory experiences they may encounter during their haircut. Working closely with Fraser Sensory Certified, we developed social narratives that highlight the sights, sounds, and sensations children may experience at our salon, emphasizing our commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all children.
