At Pigtails & Crewcuts Buckhead, we’re bringing the Halloween spirit to life—one braid at a time! Whether your child is going for cute, creepy, or something in between, a festive hairstyle can be the perfect finishing touch to their costume. Here are some of our favorite Halloween hair braid styles to get your little one into the spooky spirit.
Bat Wing Braids
Bat Wing Braids are perfect for kids who want something a little more dramatic and unique. This style begins with two Dutch braids on either side of the head, but instead of braiding straight back, the braids are curved slightly outward and then inward again—mimicking the shape of a bat’s wing.
Once complete, the braids are secured with elastics and gently pulled at the edges to exaggerate the winged shape. Add sparkly bat clips or dark purple ribbons for a finishing touch. This hairstyle pairs perfectly with bat, vampire, or gothic costumes.
Spider Web Braids
This intricate style is a total showstopper. We start by parting the top section of the hair into four or five diagonal sections, then create tight Dutch braids that form the “spokes” of the web. Once braided, we weave a white ribbon through the base of each braid to mimic the strands of a spider web. A bow in front ties it all together (literally!), and spider clips or glitter spray can take this look from cute to creepy-cool. It’s the perfect style for little spider queens or web-slinging superheroes.
Eyeball Bubble Braids
Fun, colorful, and just a little bit creepy, Eyeball Bubble Braids are a favorite for monster and mad scientist costumes—or for kids who just want a playful Halloween look. Start with two high ponytails, then add colorful elastics every inch or so down each one to create bubble sections.
Plastic eyeballs are gently tucked between each bubble, and the hair is fluffed slightly to hold them in place. Top the braids off with plastic spider rings or Halloween bows. This style is easy to wear and even easier to love!
Skeleton Pigtail Braids
This edgy-yet-cute style starts with two tight Dutch braids or French braids from the hairline to the nape of the neck. After the braids are tied off, white or silver ribbon is crisscrossed through each braid to mimic the look of a spine or skeleton bones.
Add skull clips, black bows, or glow-in-the-dark accessories to take this look to the next level. Skeleton Pigtail Braids are perfect for a little ghoul going as a skeleton, zombie, or anything creepy-cute.
