Pigtails & Crewcuts: Haircuts for Kids is now open in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and ready to make haircuts fun and memorable for families in the surrounding area.
Owner Angel Putnam is excited to bring the Pigtails & Crewcuts experience to Winston-Salem and help turn the ordinary task of getting a haircut into something families with kids look forward to. Putnam, who also owns the Greensboro location, says her path to joining the franchise began as she was growing her own family. Prior to having children, she worked in retail and left that world to be a stay at home mom while her children were young. “Once they started school, I kind of felt lost so I started thinking about what I knew, which was kids,” she shares.
Determined to hone in on what she felt she knew best, Putnam decided to start researching franchises that offered services for children. Around the same time, she took her son to a local children’s salon for a haircut and thought while the concept was great, the experience was lacking. The visit inspired her to research other children’s salon franchises. When Pigtails & Crewcuts came up in her search, the sight of the bright and whimsical decor made her think “This is what you imagine when you walk into a kid-based business!”
Inspired by what she saw, Putnam called the franchise office and traveled to Atlanta to meet with the franchise leadership staff and visited local salons. She recalls the welcoming atmosphere as feeling “like home” and knew bringing Pigtails & Crewcuts to her community was the right choice. In early 2017, she opened the doors to her Greensboro salon.
Her decision to open a second location in Winston-Salem came partly out of the demand from her existing clients and partly because of her dream to grow her venture into a business her kids can one day join so they can grow the extended Pigtails & Crewcuts family together. “The family aspect is huge and means everything to me,” she shares. “I want our clients to understand they are like family to us. We want to know their names, the kids birthdays, what they dress up as on Halloween and how their day was at school.”
She also aspires to make strong connections with the local community, sharing that building and growing the community is also of importance to her. Much like the Greensboro salon, Putnam hopes to form partnerships with local schools and churches, as well as become another drop-off location for Backpack Beginnings, a program that supplies backpacks filled with the essentials for children in foster care.
“I grew up in and out of foster care and group homes, so the magic of being a child really has my heart. I want to help make their future brighter in any aspect I can,” Putnam says of her desire to continue her work with Backpack Beginnings.
Pigtails & Crewcuts Winston-Salem is located at 205 South Stratford Road, Unit H in The Towers, directly across the street from Thruway Center. The salon is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm, Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm, and Mondays from 10 am to 6 pm, and is closed on Tuesdays.
