February 7, 2020, Atlanta, Georgia — Pigtails & Crewcuts, a children’s hair salon franchise based in Atlanta, Georgia, is set to open its fifth Florida location in Clermont soon. As parents, owners Heather and Grant Arnold are excited to bring this experience to the community and provide families with a haircutting experience focused on making kids feel comfortable.
With business degrees and backgrounds in corporate offices, the Arnolds knew that they wanted to open a business at some point and started looking at franchise opportunities, but it wasn’t until their first child needed a haircut that the thought of a children’s salon began to resonate.
“Our first son’s hair was crazy at nine months old, and I was willing to drive and pay for a great experience,” Heather shares. Her search led her to the Pigtails & Crewcuts salon in Dr. Phillips where she began taking her son for a trim about every six weeks. “Because we were customers, this franchise concept stood out to us. It was always busy and it’s a really cool model. And I loved the idea of a kid-centric business,” she continues.
The couple noticed the franchise opportunity signs in the salon and decided to take the initial steps to learn more about joining the Pigtails & Crewcuts franchise. “We liked what we read, who we spoke with, and the specific details of the company,” Heather explains. “We liked that they provide so much support. We don’t have experience owning a business, so we knew we wanted a solid support system from the franchise office.”
Another factor that impacted their decision to invest with Pigtails & Crewcuts and bring it to Clermont was “Seeing how busy the salon at Dr. Phillips is,” Grant shares. “It was always packed on the weekends, so Heather eventually started taking our son during the week and it was still busy. That highlighted that there was a need in the market, and Clermont was missing that. If there’s a need for it in one area, there’s got to be an appetite for it elsewhere,” he continues.
With bright colors and decor, themed chairs, and plenty of books, toys, and movies to keep kids occupied, Pigtails & Crewcuts salons create the kid-friendly atmosphere many parents look for when trying to find a special place for their children’s haircuts. “Other salons don’t have what Pigtails & Crewcuts has. The train table is a lure for our son, before and after his haircut. He’ll sit nicely, watch a movie on the TV, or play with a toy offered by the stylist during his haircut; and in turn I feel calm and collected as a parent,” Heather recalls of her experience as a customer. As a mom, she knows some children can be overwhelmed when it’s time for a haircut, and she appreciates that Pigtails & Crewcuts aims to make haircuts a great experience for kids as well as their parents.
