Spider Web Braids
What You’ll Need
- White ribbon
- Hair elastics
- Bobby pins
- Comb
- Hairspray
- Spider Accessories (Optional)
- Section the Hair – Section off hair from the top of your child’s head. Then, create four to five diagonal sections. Try to keep them even, as these sections will form the braids.
- Get Some Braids Going! – Once your hair is evenly parted, begin dutch braiding each section back.
How to Dutch Braid:
1. Gather three small sections of hair where you want to begin the braid. These sections of hair should be equal in size.
2. Cross the right section of hair under the middle section so that the right is now the middle piece of hair. Then, cross the left section under the middle, making the left the new middle piece of hair.
3. Next, on the left-hand side, gather a small piece of hair and add it to the left-hand section in your hand. Cross that under the middle strand and then repeat this process on the right-hand side.
4. Continue repeating step three until you reach the crown of the head and secure the braid with a hair elastic.Repeat these steps for each of the sectioned pieces of hair.
- Weave Your Web – Once you’re happy with your braids, thread your ribbon through a bobby pin. Using the bobby pin as a guide, starting at the end of one of the outermost braids, feed the bobby pin and ribbon through the base of the braid, leaving some excess ribbon out (you’ll need this excess ribbon to secure the web at the end). Continue to feed the bobby pin and ribbon through the base of each braid until you reach the opposite side of the head.
Once you’re on the opposite outermost braid, measure about an inch from where the ribbon is and weave the ribbon through the braid to reach the opposite outermost braid once again. Repeat this process until you reach the front of your child’s head.
Once you reach the front, take both ends of the ribbon and tie them together in a bow to secure the web with style!
- Finishing Touches – Take your web to the next level by incorporating spider accessories, and your web is complete! Finish it off with hairspray to lock in your spooky Halloween hairstyle.
Spider Web Spikes
What You’ll Need
- Strong-hold gel or pomade
- Stretchy spider web
- Plastic spiders
- Hair spray (Optional)
- Style Your Spikes – Rub gel or pomade on your hands to distribute the product evenly. Then, run it through your child’s hair upwards to spike their hair up.
PRO TIP: Once you’re happy with the spikes, use hair spray to lock the style in place!
- Apply the Web – Separate some of your stretchy spider web, and begin to stretch the threads throughout your child’s hair. Have fun with this and add as much or as little as you like! Once their whole head is covered, finish it off by weaving a giant plastic spider through the web.
"Eye" See You Bun
What You’ll Need
- Plastic eyeball
- 2-3 pipe cleaners
- Bobby pins
- Hair elastics
- Bun maker
- Hair spray
- Hot glue gun
- Get Crafty – Begin by taking your pipe cleaners and crossing them over each other. Once you’re happy with the placement, take your hot glue gun and glue the pipe cleaners together. Then, take your eyeball and glue it in the center, where all the pipe cleaners meet and cross over. Now you’re ready to begin your spooky style!
- Begin the Bun – Pull your child’s hair back into a high ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic. Then, take your bun maker and carefully pull the ponytail through the middle. Position the bun maker at the base of the ponytail.
- Create the Bun – Once you’re happy with the positioning of the bun maker, spread the hair evenly around the bun maker. Then, take a hair elastic and slide it over the bun to secure the hair.
PRO TIP: Take any remaining hair sticking out of the bottom of the bun maker and twist it around the base of the bun, and secure with bobby pins.
- It’s Alive! – Take your spooky eyeball hair piece and position it so that the eyeball is in the middle of the bun. Then, take your pipe cleaners and position them around the bun to your liking. Once you’re happy with the placement of the pipecleaners, tuck in the ends into the bun.
Note: If the pipe cleaners are too long to tuck into the bun, trim them with scissors!
Use bobby pins around the bun and pipecleaners for some extra security. Finish off with some hairspray to keep everything in place, and all eyes will be on you this Halloween!
