Sweetheart Sparkle
What You’ll Need
- A comb or brush
- Hair gems and/or hair glitter
- Curl cream and/or frizz cream
- Hair elastics
- Hair Gel (Optional)
- Get the Hair Prepped – Detangle and style your child’s hair if needed. Use a curl cream or anti-frizz products to keep their hair hydrated and frizz-free!
- Part the Heart – Part your child’s hair to the side. Once you and your child are happy with the part, take a medium-sized section from the part with less hair and begin to part it into a heart shape.
Pro Tip: Use a rat tail comb for precise lines and parting! If you’d like extra hold to prevent flyaways, use hair gel to slick the heart section done. Once you’re happy with the shape of the heart, secure the section with a hair elastic at the base/point of the heart.
Make your Heart Sparkle! – Take a step back and make sure you’re happy with the placement and shape of the heart. Then, take your favorite hair glitter or hair gems and begin to place them around the heart. For extra sparkle, use both! Make final adjustments to your liking, and your kiddo is ready to shine this Valentine’s Day!
Lovely Heart Crown Braid
What You’ll Need
- A comb or brush
- Curl cream and/or frizz cream
- Hair elastics
- Hair gel or pomade (Optional)
- Section the Hair – Make sure your child’s hair is tangle-free. Part your child’s hair down the middle. Then, take the top third portion of the hair, and section it off in a “V” shape, with the point facing towards the bottom of the head. Once you’re happy with your parting, secure the bottom two-thirds of the hair with an elastic or clip to keep it out of the way while you work on the braids.
- Begin the Braids – Secure the section you aren’t working on with a hair elastic or clip to keep it out of the way and keep the braids neat.
Optional: To tame the flyaways and add extra hold, prep the sections by applying gel, pomade, or your fav flyaway product!
- How to Lace Braid (One-Sided Dutch Braid)
1. Gather three small sections of hair where you want to begin the braid. These sections of hair should be equal in size and will be your braid strands.
2. Cross the right strand of hair under the middle section so that the right is now the middle piece of hair. Then, cross the left section under the middle, making the left the new middle piece of hair.
3. Next, on the outermost side of the unincorporated hair, the side closest to your child’s ear, gather a small piece of hair and add it to the outer braid strand in your hand. Cross that strand under the middle strand. Do not add hair to the inner braid strand and cross it under the middle strand.
4. Continue repeating step 3, adding hair only to the outer braid strand until you reach the top of your child’s ear.
5. Once you reach your child’s ear, stop incorporating hair into the braid and continue a regular three-strand braid until you reach the crown of your child’s neck. Secure with a hair elastic.Repeat the lace braid on the remaining section of hair.
- Form the Heart – Take your two lace braids and gather them together at the crown of your child’s head. Secure the ends of the braids together with a hair elastic. Your braids should come together to form a heart shape in the center of your child’s head!
Take some time to smooth the hair in the center of the heart if needed. Style the rest of your child’s hair with curl cream or frizz cream to finish the lovely look!
Beautiful Bubble Braids
What You’ll Need
- A comb or brush
- Your favorite hair accessory (hair gems, hair clips/barrettes, hair bows)
- Curl cream and/or frizz cream
- Hair elastics
- Section the Hair – Make sure your child’s hair is tangle-free. Part your child’s hair down the middle. Then, take the top third portion of the hair and separate it from the rest. Once you’re happy with your parting, secure the bottom two-thirds of the hair with an elastic or clip to keep it out of the way while you work on the bubble braids.
- Section and Secure! – Secure the side you aren’t working with to keep it out of the way. Then, on the working side, part a small section in the front of the hair and secure it at the base with a hair elastic. Create another small section right behind the first. Incorporate the ponytail from the first section into the second and secure them together with a hair elastic. Repeat this until you run out of hair to section.
Repeat this on the other section of hair. - Bubble Braid Time – You should be left with a pigtail on each side of your child’s head. Take one pigtail, and add a hair elastic about three finger lengths down. Continue adding elastics all the way down the pigtail, keeping even sections. Repeat on the other side. The hair in between each band will be the “bubbles”.
Take hair from each bubble section and start to pull pieces of hair up and out to create volume. Repeat on the other side. Finish your look off by adding your fav hair accessories in between the bubbles! Use hair gems, hair glitter, bows, the possibilities are endless! Now your kid is ready to rock their sweetheart style.
Whether you try just one or rotate through all three, these children’s Valentine’s hairstyles make getting ready feel fun, memorable, and full of love.
